Phantom Blade Zero State of Play Reveals 30+ Weapons and New Story Paths
The August 2026 Phantom Blade Zero State of Play detailed 30-plus main weapons, 25 Phantom Edges, reforging, difficulty modes and new story paths.
The dedicated Phantom Blade Zero State of Play on August 17, 2026 moved beyond combat spectacle to explain how weapons, builds, difficulty, exploration, and optional stories fit together. S-GAME confirmed an arsenal of more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges, while also outlining systems for upgrades, accessories, and reforging.
The presentation also gave narrative exploration more weight. Citizens across the Wulin can lead Soul into side quests, and S-GAME says completing some of them may open additional story paths. That careful wording confirms meaningful optional content without revealing specific choices or outcomes.
More than 30 main weapons
S-GAME says players can unlock more than 30 main weapons while exploring the Wulin. The scale is significant because official footage presents weapons as distinct combat options, not as a list of statistically different copies of one moveset.
The presentation shows Soul changing his approach during fights and using different weapon types against assassins, corrupted enemies, and martial-arts masters. It does not publish a complete weapon list, final damage values, rarity tiers, or every unlock condition.
Defeating some enemies can expand Soul’s arsenal. S-GAME has not said that every enemy awards a weapon, nor has it explained whether each addition is dropped, learned, copied, or otherwise acquired. Our combat and weapons guide tracks the confirmed arsenal without filling those gaps with assumptions.
What are Phantom Edges?
The presentation describes 25 secondary weapons as Phantom Edges. They broaden a loadout beyond conventional main weapons and include options for specialized attacks. S-GAME specifically points to ranged pressure and summons when describing the range of possible builds.
That does not establish a full list of 25 named items or define one universal Phantom Edge behavior. The category can support unusual devices and techniques, but each weapon needs to be documented from official material or the released game before receiving an individual guide.
Phantom Edges should also not be treated as proof of a separate magic system, companion class, or fixed build archetype. The official explanation is narrower: they are secondary weapons that add more ways to fight.
Upgrades, accessories, and reforging
Main weapons can be upgraded and paired with accessories to shape a build. The most player-friendly detail is reforging: if someone changes direction after investing in a weapon, S-GAME says its materials can be recovered and reinvested elsewhere.
This confirms that experimentation will not necessarily leave all invested materials trapped in an abandoned setup. It does not reveal material names, upgrade levels, costs, drop rates, accessory slots, or an endgame optimization path. Those details remain unavailable before release.
The system fits the size of the arsenal. With more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges, the ability to redirect materials may make it easier to try different combinations without committing to a single weapon from the beginning.
Three difficulty options
The State of Play names three settings:
- Wayfarer is intended for players who want to focus on story and exploration.
- Hellwalker introduces more advanced and adaptive enemy intelligence.
- Sixty-Six Days is presented as the hardest announced option.
S-GAME has not published numerical damage modifiers, exact parry windows, checkpoint rules, or every restriction attached to these modes. Sixty-Six Days should not be described as permadeath or a literal campaign timer without further official evidence.
Our Phantom Blade Zero difficulty guide separates the confirmed descriptions from the mechanical details that remain unknown.
Side quests can open new story paths
Soul will meet citizens who need help across the Wulin. According to S-GAME, interacting with them and completing some side quests may open new story paths and deepen the player’s understanding of the martial world. Secrets are also hidden throughout the environment.
“Some” is important. The statement does not mean every optional task creates a branch, and it does not reveal quest names, morality values, success thresholds, ending requirements, or lockout points. It does establish that at least part of the optional content is connected to narrative progression rather than existing only for rewards.
The game uses handcrafted, interconnected spaces instead of a conventional unrestricted open world. The maps and exploration guide explains the semi-open structure, hand-painted maps, hidden paths, and bell-based travel in more detail. For the central premise, see Soul, The Order, and Phantom World.
Donnie Yen and Mó Yuan
The presentation formally details Donnie Yen’s dual role. He serves as a Creative Consultant, helping shape the game’s overall kung fu style and action design, and performs Mó Yuan through facial and motion capture.
Mó Yuan is identified as the leader of the Bastion of Mó and Soul’s father. The footage positions him as an important figure, but it does not disclose his complete role in the story or establish the outcome of any confrontation.
Our Donnie Yen and Mó Yuan profile covers the confirmed production work and character information without treating the appearance as a celebrity cameo.
What remains unknown
The State of Play answers several large questions while leaving release-build details open. S-GAME has not yet published:
- The complete main-weapon and Phantom Edge lists
- Final weapon statistics or balance values
- Upgrade materials, costs, and maximum levels
- A complete accessory catalogue
- Exact acquisition conditions for every weapon
- The precise behavior of adaptive enemy intelligence
- Individual side-quest consequences and lockout rules
- Complete ending requirements
Those subjects require additional official documentation or direct verification after launch. The presentation supports a broad picture of experimentation and interconnected storytelling, not a finished database of builds and routes.
